An old lady; well-advanced in age and a national hero. In all her years in national service, has encountered various kinds of human beings; all sorts. Men in power and men of power, men who progress with oppression and men humiliated due to their unshakable stance on dignity and humility. In retrospect, she counted the causes and found a common denominator; self-centeredness and greed. But, those are two denominators, you say. These two are bound together, if you are greedy, you keep wanting more for you alone, aren’t you self-centred?, and vice-versa.
The family, considered as the smallest unit of the society, springs the greatest minds and biggest names; small but mighty you could call it. Therefore, when the family is jeopardized, the society is dented and in shambles. In the midst of this prospect of greatness in the world at large, lie anxiety, fear, frustration, depression and all agents of destabilization that have eaten deep into the fabrics of this unit. Diving deeper to the root, just pulp and coins! This root evil is the cause of 90% of the friction in the family today. Little wonder a couple with one car, argue every morning on who uses the car, the argument escalates to the point that they become counter-productive, in the end become more reactive. Prior to the purchase of the car, they combined their proactive energies, understanding each other better. Consequently, little money started coming in, they got the car. Now, the car isn’t enough. Just a little more money they say to themselves and it would be just fine. The truth is if one car is not enough; you can’t have a happy home, then even five cars wouldn’t do. I tell you why, your arguments would progress to who uses the Rolls Royce today, in the end, we see get rich quick schemes in the society, corruption, corruption and more corruption. Again, a husband and father keeps amassing money, sending his children to the best schools, bringing in the best nannies, buying expensive jewellery for his wife. He has no time for family, just contracts and business interest him, after a while his family complains but, his resolute answer is “common, the money is for all of us”. Finally, his family is a nightmare. His daughter becomes a whore and his two sons become gang bangers, affecting the society too, all because they lacked their father’s love and rebuke.
It’s just never enough. People have lost their lives in the pursuit, families destroyed and ultimately societal ills emanate. Would you subordinate positive values for paper and metal? Inanimate objects? There has been the mistake of wealth as having plenty of money, a very wrong ideology. Money without love equals greed and self-centeredness. Wealth on the other hand, is the harmonious creation of positive actions that would achieve each party’s dreams and aspirations. It is money, love, good health, self-control, contentment, joy and understanding, embedded in a whole. This is true wealth. If every family ensures these in their daily target praxis, there would be utmost peace and happiness, even in the society
